Types Of Refractory Castables

Refractory castables are usually classified based on the size of porosity, the selected binder or bonding method, the type of aggregate, and the construction method.
1. According to porosity, it can be divided into dense refractory castables and insulated refractory castables;
2. According to the bonding method, refractory castables can be classified into four types: hydrated refractory castables, chemically bonded (including polymerized) refractory castables, refractory castables with a combination of hydration and polymerization (typically represented by low cement bonded refractory castables), and cohesive refractory castables.
3. According to the special effects of binders and certain materials, they can be classified into the following 7 categories:
(1) Clay combined with refractory castables;
(2) Ultra fine powder (such as silica fume) combined with refractory castables;
(3) Cement bonded refractory castables;
(4) Chemical bonded refractory castables;
(5) ρ - Al2O3 (hydrated Al2O3) combined with refractory castables;
(6) Low cement bonded refractory castables;
(7) Silica and aluminum sol (sol gel) bonded refractory castables.
4. According to the combination of raw materials, refractory castables can be divided into oxide refractory castables, non oxide refractory castables, and composite refractory castables. Oxide refractory castables can be further divided into non alkaline refractory castables and alkaline refractory castables.
5. According to the construction method, refractory castables (bodies) can be divided into two categories: vibration construction refractory castables and self flowing refractory castables.
6. According to whether refractory castables contain cement or CaO content, they can be simply divided into four categories: ordinary refractory castables, low cement refractory castables, ultra-low cement refractory castables, and cementless refractory castables.
