Factors Affecting The Performance Of Low Cement Refractory Castables

1. Micropowder

SiO2 micropowder has a better effect on promoting sintering than Al2O3 micropowder. With the increase of SiO2 micro powder addition, the room temperature flexural strength and compressive strength after heat treatment at 1100 ℃ and 1400 ℃ have been improved. This is because compared to Al2O3 micropowder, the SiO2 micropowder produced by vapor deposition has a smaller particle size, larger specific surface area, and higher activity.

2. Binder

There are various types of aluminate cement binders. When the variety is different, the performance of low cement refractory castables also varies.

3. Water reducing agent

A water reducing agent is a substance that can significantly reduce the amount of water used in mixing, also known as a precipitation agent, dispersant, or plasticizer, while maintaining the basic flow value of the castable. Water reducing agents play a very important role in refractory castables, especially in low cement and ultra-low cement refractory castables.

4. Aggregates and their composition

When preparing low cement series refractory castables, the refractory aggregate generally adopts multi-level particle grading instead of a unified material after crushing.

5. Amount of water added

Like other refractory castables, the water consumption of low cement series refractory castables is also guaranteed on the premise of ensuring the workability of the mixture. The less water consumption, the better. In this way, after the molding body of the casting material hardens, there are fewer pores, the total porosity decreases, the microstructure is dense, the linear change after firing is small, and the strength increases.
