Anchors Used in Refractory Castables

Sep 20, 2023

Anchors are widely used in fire-resistant casting materials. Metal anchors have shapes such as Y, V, and L, with a circular cross-section and other shapes.

One end of the anchor is welded to the shell, and the other end is buried in the lining. Anchors connect the shell and lining as a whole to prevent the kiln wall from bulging and collapsing. However, after heating, the metal will oxidize and expand, causing significant extrusion pressure on the refractory material. There is a significant difference in the coefficient of thermal expansion between metals and refractory materials. If the expansion joint is left improperly, the composite structure of metal refractory material will have significant thermal stress. In severe cases, pull out the anchor or severely damage the pouring material. Therefore, the design of anchors should pay attention to the following points.

① Embed the front end of metal anchors at 2/3 of the furnace wall thickness.

② Anchors should have good antioxidant performance at operating temperature.

③ In order to leave expansion joints, the surface of metal anchors should be wrapped with tape or painted. To prevent the top of the anchor from damaging the castable after expansion, a plastic cap should be worn on the head of the metal anchor.

④ When pouring in large areas, block construction should be carried out. The area of each pouring area should be around 1.5m2. The expansion joint should be left in the middle of the anchor spacing.

⑤ Generally speaking, the spacing between metal anchors is 1.5 times the construction thickness Three times. The value of vertical walls is relatively high; The value of the top wall is relatively low.
