The Use and Related Properties of Magnesia Refractory Brick

Jun 07, 2023

The main component of Magnesia Refractory Brick is magnesium oxide, and the main crystal is periclase, accounting for 80% - 90% of the mass of magnesia brick. Its matrix compounds are magnesium ferrite, magnesium aluminum spinel, forsterite, calcium forsterite, etc. Magnesium brick manufacturer

Properties of magnesia bricks

1. As the main crystal of Magnesia Refractory Brick is strongly alkaline periclase, it has high density, low moisture, high molding pressure, low apparent porosity and large bulk density. So magnesium bricks have the characteristics of multi mineral composition, strong alkalinity, and high density.

2. Magnesium bricks are typical alkaline refractory materials with strong resistance to alkaline slag erosion.

3. The melting point of periclase is as high as 2800 ℃, so the refractoriness of magnesia brick is also very high, generally reaching more than 2000 ℃.

4. The load softening temperature of magnesia bricks is much lower than the fire resistance, about 1500 ℃.

5. Magnesium bricks have good thermal conductivity, but their thermal conductivity significantly decreases with increasing temperature, indicating good thermal conductivity and low insulation.

6. The thermal expansion of magnesium bricks is relatively large, and the linear expansion coefficient increases with increasing temperature. Magnesium bricks have poor thermal shock stability, with only 2-3 water cooling cycles. Magnesium brick manufacturer

Classification of magnesia bricks

Magnesium bricks are generally divided into two categories: sintered magnesium bricks and chemically bonded Magnesia Refractory Brick. The magnesia brick with high purity and firing temperature is called direct bonded magnesia brick because of the direct contact of periclase grains; Bricks made from fused magnesia are called fused magnesia bricks.

The use of magnesium bricks

Magnesium bricks are widely used in steelmaking furnace linings, ferroalloy furnaces, and mixed iron furnaces in the steel industry due to their good high-temperature performance and strong resistance to alkaline slag; Non ferrous metallurgical industrial furnaces, such as copper, lead, zinc, and tin lining; Lime kilns in the building materials industry; Glass industry regenerator grids and heat exchangers; High temperature calcination kilns, vertical kilns, and tunnel kilns in the refractory material industry.
