Refractories for iron and steel industry are developing rapidly

Jan 08, 2020

The materials of refractories for blast furnace vary greatly. The development of BF ceramic cup is more and more common, but the production of BF ceramic cup requires the application of high erosion resistance refractory to ensure the extension of its service life. In addition to the design changes, refractory materials have also changed a lot, such as microporous carbon brick instead of the past ordinary carbon brick to reduce the penetration of molten iron. It can effectively prevent the erosion of the hot air flow of the back lining by using the grouting method to repair the back lining of the blast furnace, so as to prolong the life of the furnace lining.

New technology of water cooling is adopted for refractories used in converter. In converter steelmaking, a water cooling technology and a suspension system are respectively applied in the upper cone part and the lower shell part of the converter shell, so as to reduce the deformation of the converter body, prolong the life of the converter lining and improve the converter productivity. The application of these new technologies has had a certain impact on the use of refractories, which has raised the converter life to an average of more than 4000 heats. In addition to the application of gunning, high lime and dolomite, and the application of slag splashing technology, the furnace life of more than 10000 heats is not a problem.
