Weakness of clay refractory bricks
The damage during use is first caused by slag erosion, and there are also elements of cracking and peeling. Due to the high temperature, sudden temperature changes, atmosphere changes, and corrosion by dust, smoke, metal solutions, and slag during the use of clay refractory bricks, the damage mechanism is also appropriately chaotic.
1. Consecutive erosion; Melting and vaporizing on the surface; Diffusion in the molten phase and gas phase; Interface reaction between molten phase, gas phase and brick
2. Melting and gasification from the interior of clay bricks; Penetration of molten materials and gas-phase components; The melted and vaporized components are discharged to the outside.
3. Corrosion that does not occur consecutively. Cracking occurs; Generate low-density phase through reaction with the permeate; Transport along with changes in volume; Partial coalescence of bubbles caused by partial shrinkage and thermal stress due to reheating; The convergence of mechanical and thermal stresses in the structure; The anisotropy of thermal stress and elastic modulus that make up the phase; Separation and accumulation caused by gas-phase reactions; Mechanical impact.
4. The presence or generation of high solubility, high vapor pressure, or low viscosity phases in the mechanical impact part; Losses caused by wear and tear; The damage methods of clay refractory bricks during application can be summarized into three fundamental shapes.

(1) Due to mechanical and thermal stresses in the structure, the refractory lining may experience irregular cracks (thermal, mechanical detachment, or flaking) and fail.
(2) Due to the moisture of slag and temperature fluctuations on the hot surface, the structure of refractory bricks changes, forming a unique transformation layer. Cracks parallel to the heating surface occur at the interface between the original layer and the transformation layer, causing damage.
(3) Due to the reaction of the same metal solution, slag, and smoke, dissolution and wear occur, mainly caused by the occurrence of liquid phase, resulting in the erosion of the outer layer of the operation.
Due to the inherent reasons of clay refractory bricks, which can be locally sourced and reasonably priced, the use of bricks is indeed widespread. Therefore, we need to pay more attention to the above-mentioned cracks, damages, and other phenomena in our daily use to prevent the occurrence of such defective products and ensure that we can safely and confidently use clay refractory bricks.
