Study On Cordierite Honeycomb Ceramic Carrier

Jun 16, 2020

Honeycomb ceramics are widely used in automobile exhaust gas purifier carrier, ozone inhibition catalyst carrier, heat exchange in metallurgical industry and metal filtration industry. Cordierite (2MgO • 2Al_ 2O_ 3•5SiO_ 2) With the characteristics of high melting point, low thermal expansion and excellent mechanical strength, it has become the preferred material for the production of honeycomb ceramics. In this paper, the performance requirements of cordierite honeycomb ceramics are described. The process of cordierite honeycomb ceramics made from rectorite, industrial alumina and talc is mainly discussed. The optimum formula of the billets was determined, the plasticity index, green strength, strength and thermal expansion coefficient of different billets were tested, the basic properties of extruded honeycomb ceramic products, such as water absorption, porosity, bulk density, micropore diameter and thermal expansion coefficient, were tested, and the phase composition and microstructure of honeycomb ceramics were analyzed by XRD and SEM. The results are as follows: 1. Rectorite is a kind of clay with good plasticity and strong binding force. The plastic billets with good extrudability can be prepared from the whole green billets made of Rectorite without adding any plasticizer. When the water content is 35-38%, the plasticity index is as high as 4.55 kg • cm. 2. The best performance of the mixture is raw meal: clinker = 7:3. 3. The best process combination of molding AIDS is: water content of raw meal is 40%, glycerin content is 6%, dextrin content is 10%; water content of 7:3 blank is 40%, glycerin content is 10%, dextrin content is 10%. 4. Forming process: the vacuum degree is 0.09mpa, the low pressure is 5MPa, the pressure is maintained for 2min, and the continuous extrusion forming is conducted under the maximum forming pressure of 20MPa. 5. The best drying process: drying in electric oven, 50 ℃ for 2h, 70 ℃ for 2h, 80 ℃ for 2h, 90 ℃ for 2h, 100 ℃ until the water absorption is less than 1%.
