Refractory Materials For Blast Furnace Body

The furnace body is an important component of the blast furnace, playing a role in heating, reducing, and slagging the furnace materials. From beginning to end, it withstands the erosion of gas flow and the impact of materials. But the temperature in the upper and middle parts of the furnace body is relatively low (400-800 ℃), and there is no risk of slag formation and slag corrosion. This area is mainly subjected to the impact of furnace materials, wear and tear caused by rising furnace dust or thermal shock (up to 50 ℃/min), or damage caused by the invasion of alkali, zinc, and carbon deposition. So this area mainly uses high-quality clay bricks and high alumina bricks with low porosity. Especially with the increase in the variety and quality of refractory products, the service life of blast furnace lining has been greatly extended.

However, with the increasingly stringent operating conditions and the establishment of a system to significantly extend the service life of large and medium-sized blast furnaces, this area requires the use of refractory materials that are excellent in terms of resistance to spalling and wear. Therefore, phosphate bonded clay bricks are also used in the upper part of the furnace body, and silicon-based refractory bricks and high alumina refractory bricks with excellent peel resistance are used in the upper and middle parts.

The lower part of the furnace body has a higher temperature, which is an area with more heat exchange and the formation of a large amount of low melting materials. There is friction during the descent of hot furnace materials, the scouring effect of dust during the rise of gas, and the erosion effect of alkali metal vapor. Therefore, this area is highly susceptible to erosion, and in severe cases, the entire cooler will be completely corroded, relying only on the steel shell to maintain it. Therefore, it is required to use high-quality clay bricks, high alumina bricks, corundum bricks, aluminum carbon bricks or silicon carbide bricks with good slag resistance, alkali resistance, high temperature strength and wear resistance. Graphite bricks are also used for the lining of cooling plate structures.
