What Are The Types Of Refractory Materials

1. Alkaline refractory materials are generally refractory materials mainly composed of magnesium oxide or calcium oxide, including magnesium bricks, magnesium aluminum bricks, magnesium chromium bricks, dolomite bricks, etc. This type of refractory material has strong corrosion resistance to alkaline slag.

2. Aluminum silicate refractory material

Aluminum silicate refractory material is a refractory material mainly composed of Al2O3 and SiO ₂. According to the content of Al2O3 and SiO ₂ in the product, it can be divided into three categories: semi siliceous (Al2O3 15-30), clayey (Al2O3 30-48), and high alumina (Al2O3 greater than 48%).

3. Magnesium refractory materials

Magnesia refractory material is a type of refractory material mainly composed of magnesite, seawater magnesia, and dolomite, with periclase as the main crystal phase and MgO content above 80% and 85%. Magnesium refractory materials have good high-temperature resistance and can be used in steelmaking, smelting non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature zones in ceramic kilns.

4. Acidic refractory materials

Acidic refractory materials mainly include silica bricks and zircon bricks. Silicon bricks are mainly composed of siliceous products containing over 94% silicon oxide, which have strong resistance to acid slag erosion, high load softening temperature, and the characteristics of non shrinkage or even slight expansion after repeated calcination. Zirconia bricks, on the other hand, are mainly made of refractory clay and contain 30% to 46% alumina, which has good thermal shock resistance and high temperature strength, but poor thermal shock resistance. Acidic refractory materials can resist the erosion of acidic slag at high temperatures, but are prone to react with alkaline slag.

5. Neutral refractory materials

Neutral refractory materials mainly consist of alumina, chromium oxide, or carbon, among which corundum products containing over 95% alumina are a high-quality refractory material with a wide range of uses. Neutral refractory materials are not easily reacted with acidic or alkaline slag at high temperatures, and have good refractory performance and stability.

6. Siliceous refractory materials

Silicon refractory materials mainly include silicon bricks, amorphous silicon refractory materials, and quartz glass products. Among them, siliceous refractory materials are mainly composed of silicon, which has the characteristics of high temperature resistance and high fire resistance. Common siliceous refractory materials include silica bricks, amorphous siliceous refractory materials, and quartz glass products.

7. Dolomite refractory materials

Dolomite refractory material is an alkaline refractory material mainly composed of dolomite and MgO and CaO. The mass fraction of CaO is 40% to 60%, and the mass fraction of magnesium oxide is 30% to 40%. The refractory temperature of dolomite refractory material is above 1780 ℃, and the starting temperature for softening under 0.2MPa load is 1550 ℃. It can be seen that it has good high-temperature stability.

8. Alumina refractory materials

Aluminum oxide refractory material is a type of refractory material mainly composed of aluminum oxide, which has stability and corrosion resistance at high temperatures and can withstand chemical corrosion and thermal shock at high temperatures. Aluminum oxide refractory materials are widely used in metallurgy, construction, chemical and other fields, such as aluminum electrolysis tanks, high-temperature kilns, furnaces, heat treatment furnaces, etc.

9. High alumina refractory materials

High alumina refractory materials mainly include aluminum silicate refractory materials, aluminum silicate refractory materials, clay refractory materials, and high alumina refractory materials. Among them, aluminum silicate refractory materials are mainly composed of Al2O3 and SiO ₂, with high Al2O3 content and low SiO ₂ content. High alumina refractory materials have high temperature stability and durability, suitable for high-temperature environments, but require high maintenance and upkeep.
