A binder is a material that can bond refractory aggregates and powders together and display a certain strength. It is an important component of amorphous materials (refractory castables), which can be made of inorganic, organic, and composite materials. Under certain conditions, binders harden the mixture and obtain strength through hydration, chemistry, polymerization, and coagulation. Generally, binders contain a large amount of low volume point substances and are relatively expensive. While ensuring the initial strength and high-temperature performance of the material, the amount used should be minimized as much as possible. The binder commonly used for refractory castables on the market now is CA-50 series aluminate cement, and different strengths of refractory cement are used according to the strength of the castables.
