Production Process And Application Of Polycrystalline Mullite Refractory Fibers

Dec 03, 2024

Polycrystalline mullite refractory fiber is currently the latest type of ultra lightweight high-temperature refractory material in China. It has the characteristics of light bulk density, high thermal resistance, thermal difference, low thermal conductivity, high operating temperature, and good energy-saving effect.

Production process of polycrystalline mullite fiber

Polycrystalline mullite fibers are produced by chemical colloid method. The manufacturing principle is to make soluble aluminum and silicon salts into a colloidal solution with a certain viscosity. The colloidal solution is spun into fiber embryos by centrifugal spinning method, and then transformed into Al Si oxide polycrystalline fibers through high-temperature heat treatment.

The refractory material used to build the furnace body is one of the important factors affecting the thermal efficiency and service life of the kiln. Currently, most high-temperature industrial kilns in China use refractory brick castables, ramming materials, and other materials to build the furnace body. However, there are disadvantages such as short service life, poor thermal efficiency, high energy consumption, and heavy weight. Therefore, the use of refractory fibers as furnace lining is an inevitable trend in kiln renovation, and polycrystalline mullite refractory fibers are an ideal energy-saving material for kilns.

The application of polycrystalline mullite fibers can be achieved through several methods such as pasting, masonry, splicing, hanging, and tiling. Firstly, different usage methods should be adopted based on the specific situation of the kiln. Using polycrystalline mullite fiber raw cotton to produce different series of products: felt, board, brick, tube, shaped parts, etc.
