Introduction To The Method Of Plastering During The Construction Of Refractory Bricks

Oct 05, 2026

Gray blasting is the process of applying mud to the bonding surface of refractory bricks to be laid in advance. The method of plastering varies depending on the type, shape, and location of refractory bricks. The level of plastering technology has a significant impact on the strength of masonry. When the refractory bricks with good plastering are opened for inspection after masonry is completed, it can be seen that the joints are evenly covered with mud. However, refractory bricks with poor plastering may have gaps on the contact surface, which reduces the bonding strength of the refractory brick body and may cause air leakage in the masonry.

(1) Use a tile knife to remove dust

Hold a brick in your left hand and a tile knife in your right hand. When using the plastering method to apply mortar strips, it is necessary to first use a trowel to remove the mortar, and then remove the bricks. When making the gray strip, place one large side of the brick facing upwards. When the brick is in place, use your left hand to press the brick tightly, and use your right hand to strike with a wooden mallet. After that, tighten the brick tightly.

(2) Use a large shovel to remove dust

Use the left hand to hold refractory bricks and the right hand to hold a large shovel. First, use the large shovel to apply mortar, and then take the refractory bricks. These operations are the same as using a trowel to apply mortar. It should be noted that the tip of the shovel moves backwards along the edge of the refractory brick, allowing the mortar to naturally form a raised spine for masonry.

(3) Precautions for dust removal operation:

1. The general principle of refractory brick manufacturers, whether using a trowel or a large shovel for plastering, is to make the mortar full (after masonry, uncover it and check it with a hundred grid, the porosity should not exceed 10%). The amount of slurry to be excavated should be determined according to the size of the brick surface and the thickness of the mortar joint, and should not be too much or too little. It should be able to maintain the thickness of the mortar joint and operate quickly.

2. The mud in the ash bucket should be stirred frequently to ensure even mixing and convenient use. Do not touch the edge of the sludge bucket, the mud on the edge of the bucket should be scraped into the bucket.

3. When plastering, try to do it on top of the mud bucket as much as possible, slightly thicker than the specified joint thickness, and evenly apply mud on the refractory brick surface. Do not let the large shovel collide or rub against the refractory bricks when plastering, apply smoothly.
