Introduction Of Carbon Arc Gouging

Apr 23, 2021

Carbon arc gouging is a method of using graphite rod or arc generated between carbon rod and workpiece to melt metal and blow it off with compressed air to process groove on metal surface.

Carbon arc gouging is a kind of surface processing groove method, which uses carbon rod or graphite rod as electrode to produce arc with workpiece, melt metal and blow the molten metal away with compressed air. In welding production, it is mainly used for groove planing, eliminating weld defects and back cleaning. Carbon arc gouging has the following characteristics:

(1) Manual carbon arc gouging has great flexibility and can be operated in all positions. Good accessibility, very simple.

(2) When the weld defects are removed, the shape and depth of the defects can be clearly observed under the arc.

(3) High efficiency. When automatic carbon arc air gouging is used, it has higher precision and reduces labor intensity.

The disadvantages of carbon arc gouging are: noise, smoke, dust pollution and arc radiation. The surface needs to be polished or carburized
