Manufactured from high-quality mullite (3Al₂O₃·2SiO₂) raw materials and organic pore-forming agents, these bricks are formed under high pressure and sintered at elevated temperatures to create a uniform, closed-pore microstructure. Their outstanding performance characteristics include a maximum service temperature of up to 1,600°C, exceptionally low thermal conductivity (typically 0.25–0.35 W/m·K at 800°C), and low heat storage capacity, which significantly reduces heat loss and accelerates heating/cooling cycles. They also exhibit superior thermal shock resistance, enabling them to withstand repeated temperature fluctuations without cracking or spalling. Furthermore, their high creep resistance under load, dimensional stability, and resistance to chemical attack from acidic and neutral atmospheres ensure long-term durability in demanding environments. With a bulk density of only 0.6–1.0 g/cm³, these bricks are easy to handle and install, reducing structural stress on furnace shells.
The primary applications of mullite insulating bricks span a wide range of high-temperature processing sectors. They are extensively used as hot-face linings in intermittent kilns such as shuttle kilns, tunnel kilns, and roller hearth kilns for ceramic and porcelain production. In the petrochemical industry, they serve as backup insulation layers in cracking furnaces and reformers. They are also employed in glass melting furnaces, annealing lehrs, and heat-treatment equipment for metals and alloys. Additionally, they find use in the electronics industry for firing substrates and in laboratory muffle furnaces. By drastically lowering fuel consumption and improving temperature uniformity, these bricks enable operators to achieve higher product quality, lower operating costs, and compliance with stricter environmental regulations, cementing their position as an essential component of sustainable thermal processing.
