Construction And Spraying Thickness Of Fire-resistant Spray Coating

Sep 14, 2026

The fire-resistant spray coatings made of different materials vary depending on the construction situation, the thermal equipment to be sprayed, the spraying method, and the thickness to be sprayed. Taking clay spray coating as an example, let's first understand the spraying construction instructions of clay spray coating. In understanding the spraying construction process, we need to know the thickness of the working layer of the spray coating.

Clay spray coating is one of the common refractory spray coatings, which is mainly made of refractory clay as the main raw material, mixed with powder and binder. During on-site construction, an appropriate amount of water is added for mixing, and then sprayed by a spray machine. Clay spray coating can be used for lining and repair of large, medium, and small blast furnaces, hot blast furnace shells, pipelines, dust collectors, and other parts. It has the function of protecting the shell and preventing air leakage.
Before the application of clay spray paint, all construction equipment must be cleaned thoroughly to avoid impurities from entering and affecting the performance of the spray paint. Secondly, the spray coating is combined with refractory cement. Generally, the ratio of spray coating to alumina cement is 210kg: 50kg.

The spraying construction process of clay spray coating:

1. Spray paint and cement, sieve them first, and then mix evenly for 10 minutes.

2. Start adding 10-13 water to the dry mixed clay spray paint. (Usually for domestic use)

3. Mix the sprayed paint with water evenly. (Mixing time is 5-6 minutes, strictly follow the mixing time operation)

4. Transport the mixed spray material to the sprayer through an air press.

5. The spraying operator follows the construction operation instructions for spraying, and generally adopts the principle of spraying in sections and layers from top to bottom. If spraying the working layer, the general spraying thickness is around 20mm-50mm; If the thermal equipment used for spraying is an insulation layer, the general spraying thickness is around 5mm-10mm. The amount of spraying thickness needs to be determined according to the requirements of the technical department and the actual operation on site.

6. During the spraying process, expansion joints should be left according to technical requirements.

7. After spraying, it is necessary to check whether the sprayed surface is uniform. If it is uneven, it should be repaired in a timely manner to ensure the overall consistency of the sprayed surface.

The thermal equipment used for fire-resistant spray coating varies, and the selected spray coating material and thickness also differ to some extent. The specific requirements still need to be based on actual on-site operations.
