(1) The influence of graphite purity. With the increase of graphite purity, the erosion index of magnesia carbon bricks sharply decreases and the high-temperature flexural strength index significantly increases, especially when the purity is greater than 95%. Therefore, when using graphite in magnesia carbon bricks, the purity is usually above 95%.
(2) The impact of ash content. When the SiO2 content in graphite exceeds 3%, the erosion index of magnesia carbon bricks increases significantly; At the same time, impurities such as SiO2 and Al2O3 also reduce the fire resistance of the product, and the ash content will affect the oxidation resistance of the brick. Therefore, it is required that the impurity content of graphite be as low as possible.
(3) The effect of graphite oxidation resistance. The limiting factor for the corrosion of carbon containing products is the decarburization rate. Therefore, the oxidation resistance of graphite has a significant impact on the corrosion resistance of the products. The more complete the crystallization of graphite, the smaller the specific surface area, and the better the oxidation resistance. Therefore, graphite raw materials with complete crystallization and good graphitization are generally selected for the production of magnesia carbon bricks.
(4) The influence of graphite particle size and shape. Compared with earthy graphite, flake graphite not only has high purity, but also has intact crystallization. Therefore, carbon containing products generally use flake graphite, and the larger and thinner the flake particle size, the better. The small particle size of graphite can also reduce the mixing and molding properties, as well as the oxidation resistance of the mud material.
