Composition of Magnesia-Chrome Bricks
Magnesia-chrome bricks are mainly composed of magnesium oxide and chromium oxide as core chemical components, with periclase and magnesia-chrome spinel as the dominant mineral phases inside the structure. These refractory bricks feature high refractoriness, excellent high-temperature mechanical strength, strong resistance to alkaline furnace slag erosion, and certain adaptive performance when exposed to acidic furnace slag environments.
Properties
(1) Excellent high-temperature service performance.
Magnesium oxide has a melting point of approximately 2800°C, and chromium oxide can reach a melting point of up to 2400°C respectively. Benefiting from these high-melting-point core components, the bricks are able to maintain complete and stable structural integrity even in high-temperature furnace environments above 1800°C, which well satisfies the operational requirements of steel smelting and a full range of high-temperature metallurgical production processes.
(2) Outstanding load-bearing capacity under high-temperature conditions.
Under high-temperature heavy-load working conditions, the brick body can maintain stable dimensional accuracy and reliable mechanical strength. Unlike a large number of common refractory materials, which tend to soften and undergo permanent deformation when subjected to compressive loads at elevated temperatures, magnesia-chrome bricks can effectively resist high-temperature softening. This performance feature is of particular importance for key furnace components such as rotary kiln linings and furnace walls, which are subject to both continuous thermal stress and mechanical forces during operation.
(3) Superior corrosion resistance and slag resistance.
The product delivers outstanding erosion resistance in high-temperature service. It can well tolerate alkaline furnace slags commonly seen in steelmaking processes, and effectively block the permeation and chemical corrosion caused by molten metal and furnace slags, thereby extending the service life of furnace linings and reducing the frequency of equipment maintenance. The magnesia-chrome solid solution and magnesiochromite spinel formed in-situ inside the brick structure further enhance the overall chemical stability of the material when exposed to various industrial atmospheres.
Application Scenarios
Magnesia-chrome bricks are applied in a wide range of industrial scenarios. Typical application positions include the burning zone of cement rotary kilns, RH vacuum degassing units in steelworks, copper smelting converters, glass regenerative heating equipment, and various non-ferrous metallurgical furnaces.
